SNARLING,
SCREAMING, CRYING,
(PAIN) SHRIEKING

Snarls (screams, cries, pain shrieks) are loud, harsh and high-pitched vocalisations produced during active fighting, often with [a] or [æ] vowels.

The image to the right shows the phonetic characteristics (waveform, spectrogram and pitch contour) and gives an audio example of a domestic cat snarl (aggressive scream, cry or shriek).

VIMSAN SNARLS, HISSES, SPITS AND GROWLS

This video clip shows the domestic tom cat Kompis and the (neutered) female cat Vimsan during an agonistic (aggressive) accounter in an apple tree. Kompis seems to be interested in Vimsan, but his feelings are not returned. Instead, she hisses, spits and snarls (screams, shrieks) when he comes too close.

VIMSAN GROWLS, SNARLS AND SPITS

Another agonistic encounter in the apple tree between the two domestic cat rivals Vimsan (female, to the left) and Kompis (male, to the right).
